Eliza Ann ⁸ BIGELOW

15336.549 Eliza Ann ⁸ BIGELOW, dau of Ebenezer ⁷ ( Cornelius ⁶ , Paul ⁵, Cornelius ⁴, Samuel ³, Samuel ², John¹) and Ellen (BLAIR) BIGELOW, was born at Chatham township, Argenteuil, Quebec on 09 July 1843 (brother's prayerbook). She was "aged 15 next birthday" on 1861 census and "age 22 years next birthday" on 1871 census living in her mother's home, a widow. She had married on 06 March 1865 to George Robinson the son of George and Elizabeth (Ogden) Robinson. He drowned while driving logs downstream in the Spring of 1866 and their daughter was born shortly after. Eliza married again on 14 October 1872 at Grenville, Quebec. He was Robert James Dowd. Eliza died on 28 November 1880 (aged 35 years according to her headstone). Robert died 30 August 1930, aged 64. Eliza is buried at Cushing cemetery and Robert is also buried there. (Calumet, Quebec?).

Children of Robert and Eliza (Bigelow) Robinson Dowd:

15336.5492 Joseph Richard Dowd; in 1908 he was an engineer in Kenona, Ontario.

15336.5493t Lemuel Herbert Dowd, b 26 March 1877; m 15 Sept 1897 Elizabeth Kennedy; res. Grenville. Quebec; 8 children (see below).

15336.5494 Robert Albert Dowd, in 1908 he was a laborer living in Cypress River, Manitoba.

Hello Rod,
My name is Margaret Dowd. I am researching the Dowd families in Chatham/Grenville Quebec areas. My husband's name is James and his father's name was Ernest Lemuel. Ernest Lemuel's father was Lemuel Herbert who married Elizabeth Kennedy. Lemuel Herbert's parents were Robert Dowd and Eliza Bigelow.You have in your index of names that Eliza Ann Bigelow married Robert T. Dowd. His name was Robert James Dowd. You also say that Robert was buried in Calumet (Edendale) cemetery. He is buried in Cushing next to his wife Eliza.Do you have any information about the child that Eliza Ann Bigelow had after her husband died? The story I have is that all her children were "farmed out" to other family members after she died. Her youngest son who was born just before she died was with Jane Dowd (1901 census his name was spelled "Jowde"). I would imagine that Julia might have gone to a Bigelow family.The Dowd family has a few people who married Bigelows. Lemuel and Elizabeth Dowd had a daughter Alice Edna Dowd 1905 - 1973 who married Robert A. Bigelow 1900 - 1983 who was the son of Sylvester Bigelow and Margaret Lucinda Bigelow.

Lemuel and Elizabeth also had a daughter Mary Gladys Dowd who married George Lemuel Rourke. Within the Rourke family, Ada Eveline Rourke 1882 married Alexander Bigelow whose parents were Jeremiah Bigelow and Lucinda Reaume. Ada Eveline Rourke was a daughter of Thomas Rourke and Ellen Bigelow, who was the daughter of James Bigelow and Mary Bigelow. Ellen Bigelow married Thomas Rourke August 7, 1872 and died 1905. Thomas Rourke then married Persis Young Bigelow, whose parents were Ebenezer Bigelow and Ellen Blair. Their daughter Phyllis then married George Henry Bigelow, whose parents were Miles Bigelow and Elizabeth Warwick.
