      Josiah 6 Bigelow, son of Ezra 5 ( David
        4, Lt. John 3,
      Joshua 2, John 1) BIGELOW and Hannah
      (STRONG) BIGELOW, was born 05 May 1765 at Colchester, New
    London co, CT. He married, on 16 September 1784 at Colchester,
    "Lucy" Lois Waters, she was baptized 24 November 1765 Westchester,
    CT, dau of Lazarus and Lois (Loomis) Waters.  After the birth
    of their first child, they moved to Brookfield, Orange county, VT.
    Josiah, a veteran of the Revolutionary War, as a teamster under
    Capt. Samuel Northward, Col. Wadsworth's Regt. He was employed
    transporting army supplies in 1791 from East Colchester to Danbury,
    CT; then to White Plains, NY and Annapolis, MD. He was at Yorktown
    at the surrender of Cornwallis, then returned to Colchester, as his
    team of oxen "took sick and died". In April 1782 he re-enlisted
    under Capt. Isaiah Chapman and was ordered to Kings Ferry, and Horse
    Neck, where he again lost three oxen and returned to Colchester,
    after eight months service. For his service he drew a pension under
    the Act of 1832, and after his death, his widow also claimed
    pension. In later life he was a small farmer and Surveyor of
    Highways at Brookfield. He died there 14 January 1838 aged 72, his
    wife Lucy on 14 March 1842, aged 77 years. (see below) Local family records
    entitle Josiah as "Ensign" and on his grave stone he is "Captain".
