15327.343    Henry Grove 8  BIGELOW, son of  Lewis 7 ( Ithamar 6 , Ithamar 5 , Samuel 4, Samuel 3, Samuel 2, John 1) and Phebe T. (DAVIS) BIGELOW, was born at Paxton, Worcester, MA on 22 October 1841 and married on 24 October 1869 Amanda M. Hopkins. She died on 24 July 1870 and on 16 October 1872 he married Eva Tibbits who was born about 1843 in MI. They resided in Muskegon, MI and he died there on 17 November 1936. Eva had died on 11 December 1916. Her name is also given as Clarissa Eva Tibbits and she is buried with Henry. Henry served in the Civil War. (see below)

Occu1861* At the time of his enlistment in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, in 1861, Henry gave his occupation as clerk. 
15th_Mustr On 12 Jul 1861 Henry mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry as a Sergeant-Major, being credited to the quota of Paxton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was 19 years, 8 months and 20 days old. 
Mil-Promo On 23 Dec 1861 Henry was promoted to Sergeant-Major. 
Mil-Wound* He was wounded on the thigh on 17 Sep 1862.

Census1890V* Henry Grove Bigelow was enumerated in the 1890 US Federal census, Veteran's Schedule in Jun 1880 at Muskegon, Muskegon County, Michigan, as having served in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, as a musician in Company D, where he was shot through the pelvis and the wound still opens frequently. 
Census1900* He and Clarissa Eva Tibbits were enumerated in the 1900 US Federal census on 12 Jun 1900 at Muskegon, Muskegon County, Michigan, where he is a bookkeeper, and they live in their own home. Of their two children, only daughter Mary is still living. 
(Witness) Event-Misc Henry Grove Bigelow was a witness when William Gardner Waters was was present at the 40th Regimental Reunion.
Commissary sergeant W. G. WATERS, who had planned his trip from Santa Barbara, Cal., especially to attend the G. A. R. encampment at Minneapolis and the reunion of the 15th Massachusetts regiment, was the next speaker, and he told of how hot it was in Minneapolis during the encampment, and said that at that encampment he had the pleasure of meeting comrade Henry BIGELOW, whom he had not seen before in 43 years.
