and Patience (FOOTE) BIGELOW, was born 23 July 1770 in that
part
of Glastonbury later known as Marlborough, Hartford co, CT. He married
(1) on 25 September 1796, Sarah BUELL, daughter of William and Sarah
(HORSFORD)
BUELL. She was born 06 July 1774 at Hebron, CT. They lived a few years
at
Hebron, Tolland co, then moved to Marlborough. Sarah died there 20 May
1832. John D. then married (2) 25 February 1835 Jemima CARRIER, who
died 18
October 1846, aged 63 years. John D. was a farmer. Howe's Bigelow
genealogy
states he had no issue, but this is an error, as he simply outlived his
children. He died 30 December 1870, just past his one-hundredth
birthday.
There was mention of John D. in the
obituary
of Elizabeth 6 : "was the last
survivor
of this large family, and attained a greater age than any other member
of it. John D. Bigelow, her cousin, lived to the ripe age of 100 years,
5 months, and 7 days. His centennial was celebrated with much
enthusiasm
at his home in Marlborough, CT., July 23rd, 1870".
