Lewis 6 BIGELOW


16911.2    Lewis 6 BIGELOW , son of Daniel ( Daniel 4, Daniel 3, Joshua 2, John 1), and Anna (JOHNSON) BIGELOW was born 08 August 1785 at Petersham, Worcester county, MA. He was a lawyer by profession, and practiced in Petersham, serving in the legislature. He married, on 24 February 1805 Harriet Edwards. She died in April 1833, a suicide. He, taking his daughter Caroline, moved to Peoria, IL, where he was not only a lawyer, but a financier and developer, with interests in the ferry system and the infant railroad system. His other daughters joined him in 1835. He died 02 October 1838 at Peoria. His daughter Ellen's lengthy letter to her aunt in Petersham is an excellent description of the transportation (by land and water) of the decade, as well as of rural United States.

16911.22     Ellen, b 12 Oct 1807; d aged 28 mos, as reported in the Columbian Centinel, issue of 17 Mar 1810.

16911.23     Elizabeth, b ca 1809; m 23 Apr 1835 (Petersham) Dr. Leander Harding.(1811-1864) two  dau known: Caroline Metcalfe Harding, b 26 Aug 1838; d 26 May 1850 (aged 11); and Mary Lee Harding, b 1841; d 12 Mar 1848 (aged 7)

16911.24     Ellen, b ca 1811; d _____ ; m (1) 15 Feb 1836 Moses Patten; (2) 20 Sept 1838 William Frisbee, who died 1845; m (3) 1846 ____ Rankin; she is said to have died ca 1879 at San Francisco, and left issue. William and Ellen (Bigelow) Frisbee had a daughter named Louise who married Thadeus Selby Ely. She was an ancestor of Thadeus Ely Baer, who married Dorothy Bristol 9 Bigelow.

16911.25     Sarah, b Abt. 1813; d ____ ; m 06 Sept 1838 James C. Armstrong .

16911.26     Caroline L., b ca 1815 ; d ____ ; m 17 Jan 1838 George T. Metcalfe.
