Roger 5 BIGELOW


16814.     Roger 5 BIGELOW,  son of Joseph 4 ( Joseph 3, Joshua2, John1) and Mercy (PRATT) BIGELOW, was born 17 November 1752 in Weston, Middlesex county, MA. He early moved to Winchendon, having married on 21 April 1774 Mary Child, daughter of Samuel and Esther ( __ ) Child. She was born 12 January 1753 in Weston. Roger served in the Revolutionary War, and was at the Battle of Concord and Lexington He was an early convert to the Methodist sect, and meetings of the denomination were held at his house. He died in Winchendon on 06 March 1801. We have no record of his wife's death. Since most of the children moved to Weybridge, VT and environs, she may have spent her last days with one of them.

Thomas Gardner's regt; muster roll dated Aug. 1, 1775; enlisted April 29, 1775; service, 94 days; stature, 5 ft 7 in; also, Capt. Child's co., Lieut. Col. Bond's (late Gardner's) 37th regt.; muster roll for Aug., 1775, dated Camp Prospect Hill; also, company return dated Prospect Hill, Oct. 6, 1775; reported discharged Sept. 29, 1775, and place supplied by Edward Hiller; also, Sergeant, Capt. Asahel Wheeler's co., Col. John Robinson's regt.; marched Feb. 4, 1776; service, 1 mo. 28 days.
   Bigelow, Roger. Private, Capt. William Thurlo's co.; marched on an alarm at Bennington, by order of Gen. Stark and Col. Warner, under command of Maj. Ebenezer Bridge, Aug. 22, 1777; marched ninety miles and then discharged by Gen. Lincoln; service, 9 days.
