Excerpt from "FAMILY DATA, PERSONALITIES, IMPRESSIONS AND
RECOLLECTIONS" by Edward Carberry Francis Caddy written in April
1991
Aunt Maggie was the most strict in her demands on her family
as to their conduct and her interpretation of her religion. Her
devotion to the church and to her family always seemed to solve any
doubts that may have occurred to her. Among her sons, Dana was the
eldest (he, and my brothers-in-law Dee Williams and Mike Allman were
of the same age) and was the only one to stay in Stuart and rear a
large family; John, who was about my age, was a lawyer and lived in
Los Angeles where we saw he and his family fairly often; Maurice who
was very talented and intelligent but who followed somewhat in Uncle
Johnny's footsteps in that he wasted those attributes. However he
stayed married to one woman all his life and always worked more or
less steadily first selling religious items and later as a
chiropractor. He had one daughter, Micky, who lives in the Los
Angeles area. Maurice, even more than Uncle Johnny, could have
accomplished most anything except for his inability to give up
liquor. He loved to talk and to write and had a command of the
language to do both in a way to fascinate us all. His fantasy and
imagination were boundless especially when he was drinking. I was
told that one time he was staying at the Henning Hotel in Casper and
suddenly got the idea to corner the city lamb chop market. He called
every butcher shop in town, bought all their lamb chops and had them
delivered to his hotel room. And charged them all to Aunt Tess.
Before someone became suspicious he had packaged lamb chops piled
from floor to ceiling in his room with only narrow corridor from
door to bed. Once again Aunt Tess had to extricate him. Aunt
Maggie's daughters were Margaret, Pat and Marion none of whom are
still living. Margaret had a daughter, Kathi, who lives in Denver;
Pat, I believe, had four children who live in Nebraska; Marion has a
son, John, who is in the police department in Los Angeles. One other
Carberry sister that I never met was Aunt Minnie McNulty who lived
in Milwaukee and had two daughters, Jean and Maureen, neither of
whom is now living. I never met Jean and don't know about her family
but did know Maureen who has a son who I believe is living in Chico
California. Evidently Aunt Minnie died quite young and the two girls
were reared by their maternal Grandmother, who Aunt Tess called Aunt
Mary, and who Aunt Tess admired and adored very much.
