BIGELOW, son of Joseph 6
( Thaddeus 5, Joshua 4, Joshua 3, Joshua 2, John1) and Bathsheba
(REED) BIGELOW, was born at Rutland, MA on 27 May 1808 and married Sarah
Temple the grand-daughter of Jonathan Temple and the daughter of Joel and
Hannah (Hagar) Temple, on 0l May 1838. Sarah was born on 25 September
1816. John Warren commenced life by teaching in the Winter of 1827-8 and for
thirty years was employed in the public schools of Rutland and vicinity. He
was especially interested in the cause of education and was a member of the
School Committee in the town of Rutland from 1833 to 1877 - a period of forty-four
years. In 1869, he was elected one of the County Commissioners for Worcester
County, which office he held until 1877. He lived on the old family homestead
until 1867, when he sold the farm and moved into the center of Rutland. He
died in Rutland 22 March 1894 and his widow there on 01 June 1903.
