Otis 7 Bigelow

15331.12      Otis 7 BIGELOW, son of  Asahel 6  ( Cornelius 5 , Cornelius 4, Samuel 3, Samuel 2, John 1) and Martha (HALL) BIGELOW, was born at Broadalbin, Fulton, NY on 01 February, 1785. He married Mary Payn, daughter of Noah and Martha (Canfield) Payn, on 27 December 1812 (1813?). She was born 08 October 1791 at Ft. Miller, Washington, NY. Otis served in the War of 1812. He died at Baldwinsville 26 June, (Headstone says 28), 1864. She died there 08 October, (headstone says 11), 1873. Both are buried in Riverside cemetery, Baldwinsville, NY.
     Otis Bigelow was a native of Worcester, Mass, born Feb 1, 1785. His father was Asahel Bigelow, a Revolutionary solider. At the breaking out of the war of 1812 young Bigelow joined the army and served a year at the Sackett's Harbor. In the spring of 1813, he settled at Baldwinsville and opened his store. He was appointed justice of the peace in 1821, was appointed postmaster in 1828 and served 12 years. In 1828, he was appointed judge of the Court of Common Pleas and held office for ten years. In 1831 he was elected to the Assembly. He was a man of sterling character, excellent business capacity and acquired wealth. He married in 1813 to Mary Payne and they had ten children, among whom was the late Payne Bigelow, long a leading citizen of Baldwinsville.
