Phineas Newell 8 BIGELOW


 16163.226     Phineas Newell 8 BIGELOW, son of Jonathan Brooks 7( Jonathan 6  , John 5 , John 4 , Joshua 3, Joshua 2, John 1), and Relief (NEWHALL) BIGELOW, was born at Conway, Franklin co., MA on 27 September 1832.  At age 9 his father moved the family to Stowe, Lanville co, VT where he later married on 12 November 1854 Charlotte Ellen Munn.  Charlotte was born 07 October 1836 in Stowe, dau of Josephus and Lucrctia (Parker) Munn.  Phineas died at Stowe on 19 October 1911.(see below)

(VIII) Phineas Newhall, son of Jonathan Brooks Bigelow, was born in Conway, Massachusetts, September 27, 1832, died at Stowe, Vermont, October 19, 1911. He attended the public schools of his native place and at Stowe, whither he came with his parents when he was seven years of age. He followed farming all the active years of his life in the town of Stowe. He was active in public affairs, and served the town of Stowe as lister and over­seer ol the poor. In religion he was a Baptist. He was a strong and interesting personality, holding decided convictions of right and wrong, wielding a large and wholesome influence in the community and enjoying to the utmost the esteem and confidence of his townsmen. Mr. Bigelow married; November 12, 1854, Charlotte Ellen, born in Stowe, July 20,1836, (daughter of Josephus and Lucrctia (Parker) Munn. Children: Carrie Ella, born October 7, 1855, married H. E. Straw; Flora Adelaide, July 21, 1857, married Joseph T. Blodgett; Clara Abbie, February 25, 1859; Wa!ter Josephus, mentioned below; Wilbur Brooks, August 20, 1866, superintendent of the Salem City Hospital, Salem, Massachusetts; Amos Jewell. November 7, 1871, died August 5, 1893: Arthur Parker, April 21, 1874.

FORGE article, Vol.27, No.1, January 1998, page 14, Newspaper clipping submitted by Billie Bigelow Hayes, Montpelier, VT, dated 14 Apr 1915 published in Stowe VT newspaper--"I remember Addie, Annie and Susan, but never heard much about Dr. Edwin Bigelow.  I assume he never married either, so no grandchildren from all these children. I have a gold ring in the box, with Addie, Annie and Susie's names on it, so think it's gold that Eliakim brought home from California.."
Golden Wedding celebrated:  Mr. & Mrs. Eliakim Bigelow celebrate 12 Apr 1915 at their home in Stowe, VT. (50 years) Eliakim is 5th child of Jonathan Brooks Bigelow.
