Jabez 4 BIGELOW


16C5   Jabez 4  BIGELOW, son of  Eleazer 3 ( Joshua 2, (John 1), and Mary (FISKE) BIGELOW, was born 19 Dec 1736 in Watertown, Middlesex county, MA. When he was a boy, his family moved to Westminster, MA, where he lived the remainder of his life. He served in the Revolution, with the rank of Lieutenant. On 5 Oct 1760 in Shrewsbury, MA he married Deborah Knowlton (see below) of Shrewsbury; she was born 23 Dec 1734, daughter of Ezekiel and Susanna (Morgan) Knowlton (see below).. Jabez was a leading man in Westminster, serving as selectman 1779-1781, also as assessor, and other town offices. He died at Westminster 13 Aug 1822, his wife Deborah having died 22 Feb l816.

   Biglow, Jabez, Westminster. Sergeant, Capt. John Estabrook's Co., Col. Asa Whitcomb's regt., which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775, to Cambridge; service, 9 1/2 days; also, 2d Lieutenant, Capt. Elisha Jackson's Co.; marched on East Hoosuck Aug, 22, 1777, under command of Maj. Bridge, on the alarm of the battle of Bennington and there dismissed; service, 10 days; also, pay roll for 27 days service; marched under Command of Maj. Bridge to reinforce Northern army, agreeable to resolve of Sept.22, 1777; also, Capt. Job Gilbert's (3d) Co., Col. Abijah Stearns's (Worcester Co.) regt.; list of officers of Mass. militia; commissioned Sept.30, 1777; also, 1st Lieutenant, Capt William Edgells (1st Westminster) Co., Col. Rands (8th Worcester Co.) regt.; list of officers of Mass. militia; commissioned July 6, 1780.
