Jacob 4 BIGELOW

1557   Jacob 4 BIGELOW, son of Thomas 3 (Samuel 2 , John 1 ) and Mary (LIVERMORE) BIGELOW, was born Marlborough, Middlesex co, MA, 01 September 1717. The family moved to Waltham in 1720. He became prominent in Waltham, serving as selectman 1757--1762, and 1767. He married on 13 December 1739 Susanna MEAD, daughter of David and Hanna (SMITH) MEAD of Lexington, MA. She was born Lexington 01 August 1719, and died Waltham 28 February 1789. He drew up his will in Worcester co. 02 June 1794 ; it was proved 03 March 1801, and mentions sons Jacob, Samuel, and Abijah; daughters: Mary STEARNS, Susanna BROWNE, Sarah CUSHING, and Abigail FLAGG. Also mentions granddaughter Sukey, child of deceased son Thomas. He died 06 September 1800 at New Braintree, Worcester co, MA.

15576.      Thomas, b 26 Nov 1751 ; d _ Jan 1775 Providence, RI (accidentally shot during militia training) ; m 24 Nov 1774 Elizabeth Wales ; res Waltham. 1 posthumous daughter.

15577.      Samuel, b 09 Apr 1754 ; d 07 Feb 1836 Barre, MA.; m (1) 30 May 1776 Mary HARRINGTON ; (2) 07 Jan 1790 Betsy SANGER ; res Waltham and Barre ; served in Rev. War. 10 children.

15578.      Abijah, b 16 Apr 1756 ; d 22 Oct 1848 Michigan City, IN ; m 30 Nov 1780 Mercy Amelia SPRING ; res New Braintree, Barre, & Leicester, MA ; Brooklyn, CT, and Bigelow's Mills, IN. 12 children.

15579.      Sarah, b 12 Apr 1758 ; d unknown date ; m 12 Apr 1781 William CUSHING.

1557A.     Abigail, b 31 July 1760 ; d after 1810 ; m (1) 28 Nov 1779 Gershom FLAGG, his second wife, by whom 6 children; and (2) Rev. Elijah BROWNE, her sister Susanna's widower.
