Robert 7 BIGELOW, married Elizabeth Richard daughter of Rebeckah Hart Richard and John B. (Juan Batiste) Richard. (pronounced "Reechard")

This is a hand-drawn map by a local resident who used to play on the property about 1950;
CEM is cemetary and map shows path from cem to main house, which used to be there;
C is where the carriage house was; M is main house with path down to river;
K was the kitchen wing; D is where Bigelow's own ferry dock was;
also notice the circular drive area in the back of house;
1950 map on bluff5.htm shows a dirt road from Chaseville rd to house.

A Mrs. Carter who is 86 and has lived on Floral Bluff since 1935, was asked where the Bigelow house was exactly as I have heard two different stories . One puts up on top of the bluff between the ravine and Floral Bluff road ( which agrees with the map in the web site) and the other was south of the ravine close to Arlington rd, . Well I didn't learn exactly where it was, but this was what I did learn. The house burned in the 50's and the cause of the fire was some one frying potatoes and letting the grease catch fire. Reportedly Ralph Sistrunk and his family were living in another apartment in the house and lost everything. Mr. Young took up a collection and they moved to a little house on Floral Bluff (Mr. Sistrunk is still alive). She said the house got their water from a spring and another thing was the carriage house was moved to Hoffman Street on the East side and was added on to. It is still there as far as she knows. She said there was another Cemetery for the servants that has been lost through time.

     When she was young the remnants of the public dock was still at the end of Floral Bluff. She said her abstract for her house showed a perpetual easement that every one who owned land in the sub'd. had rights to use the dock but Mr. Peterson (deceased) kind of thought it was his. I mentioned to her that the Steeves had said that there was a woman's club on the dock. She said yes that she heard they held dances there in the early days.
