Bigelow House, Sierra City, CA:
This old house was built in 1867 for Orison Bigelow who also owned a local gold mine and hotel in town. The story goes that a builder from upstate New York was hired to build the house and it does resemble the front gable side wing houses seen around towns in that area.
The house stayed in the Bigelow family until purchased by the first "outsiders" in 1990 who are current owners.
The old house has been updated in recent years starting with new electrical wiring, a screened porch, insulation, new siding milled to exact original specifications, central forced air heating, and new double pane wood windows just to name a few projects. There is also new interior and exterior paint.
The Cottage was built in the 1980's and sits on its own separate parcel. It has been recently renovated and has a kitchen and bathroom. It is approximately 384 square feet in size and sits on a lot that is approximately 15,246 square feet.
The grounds are nicely landscaped and include several fruit trees and huge stately black oaks. The outbuildings include storage sheds and workshops and an old Chicken Coop complete with raised bed gardens. Newly installed paved driveway leads you to house and Cottage with parking and turn around. The picture below is the house of "Orison", not the Hotel.......ROD
