Frank M. ⁸ BIGELOW

16164.958 Frank M. ⁸ BIGELOW, son of John W. ⁷ ( Joseph ⁶, Nathan ⁵, John ⁴, Joshua ³, Joshua ², John ¹), and Mariette (FISH) BIGELOW, was born at Moriah, Essex co, NY on 25 July 1856. On unknown date he married Irene Noll who was daughter of Aaron and Harriet (Champion) Noll and born 02 September 1859. He was a farmer and lived at Moriah and Port Henry, NY where they raised a large family. She died on 09 May 1936 and Frank on 08 February 1939. As did their uncles family, some of the children listed below used an "a" instead of an "e" in their surname. Lillian who pressed Frank to change the spelling of his last name from, in her words, the "ignorant spelling" Bigalow to Bigelow. Both are buried in Stevenson Cemetery, Moriah, NY.

Great site and a wonderful resource. I thought I'd give you an update and some
corrections on the descendants of my Great Grandfather Frank M. Bigalow (the Bigalow's of
Bigalow Hill near Westport, New York). Updates/corrections:
16164.9582 John A.,died Feb. 6, 1976 Westport NY.
My Grandfather16164.958Ct Theodore Roosevelt Bigalow did not die in 1971/1972 as currently posted (my
Grandmother Lillian Smith Bigelow, his wife, died in early Spring 1971 at Moses Luddington Hospital in Ticonderoga NY).
Grandpa died on Feb. 25, 1982 in Elizabethtown NY. Also, his birth date was not August 19, 1878 as
currently posted, but Aug. 29, 1898. (It is also of interest to note that it was my
Grandmother Lillian who pressed my Grandfather to change the spelling of his last name from,
in her words, the "ignorant spelling" Bigalow to Bigelow).

16164.958A Ruth, was not born Aug 18, 1894 as currently posted, but was born
Sept. 18, 1894 and died a day after her 97th birthday on Sept. 19. 1991.

An additional correction on the addendum for my Grandfather
16164.958C Theodore R. Bigelow. According to my father, 16164.958C2
Galen Edward, Ted did not go to college, but he was a Master Mechanic for Lane Construction
Corp. for 30 years from 1918 to 1948 (I'm reading this from the back of a badly beaten
up "gold" watch he received from them upon his retirement. It's also interesting to note
that his last name is spelled Bigalow on the watch, despite my Grandmother's preferences).

Additions to the family tree are as follows: It seems my Grandmother finally got her
spelling preference wishes honored through her

first to have completed a college degree,
being a graduate of Canton Agricultural
College. My mother Rosemary O'Brien Bigelow
was born on Oct. 4, 1931 on a farm on Fisher Hill, Mineville NY.

The three children mentioned as descendants of
Galen Edward and Rosemary O'Brien are:
1. Thomas Galen (yours truly), b 06 Sept. 1953 Ticonderoga NY; married Kimberly Allison Butler (b 28 March 1957 El Paso TX) in Atlanta GA, 28 Nov. 1986.
(I moved to Atlanta in 1981 to work for Cox Communications. In 1985 I started my own Advertising Agency, Bigelow & Eigel, which today is a sole
proprietorship and going into it's 18 year of business).

Gavin Barrett, b 22 Aug. 1989
Kalyn Ellyson, b 30 Oct.1991 both in Atlanta GA.

2. Bruce Edward, b 06 Feb. 1956 Little Falls NY; married Paula Fortier of Biddford ME in 1990.
(My brother moved to Florida in the late 70's and is currently a foreman for a construction company).

3. David Patrick, b 15 Oct. 1957 Amsterdam NY; married Susan Garcia of Atlanta GA in 1982.
(David followed me to Atlanta, joined the Georgia Department of Transportation as an Inspector, and is
currently living in Brunswick GA working on the Sidney Lanier Bridge project).

I don't find all the information on John and Mayette Fish, they had several more children than you list, and also I have more names on Joseph and Catherine Chilcott too. I am a decendent of the Bigelows on Bigelow Hill in Moriah, NY, you dont have any information on your site about them either. I have all the information if you would like it.

Great Resource......Looking for any relatives and/or descendants of Franklin and Irene Bigelow who
settled in the Port Henry-Westport area of the Champlain Valley, northeast New York. They had and
raised 15 children on their farm circa 1880. I am especially interested in their forebearers. I don't
know when they settled the region...my best guess is 1825-1850.

I've found 3 Great Great Uncles military records. First of all, Amos A.-
16164.9At, joined Company H 5th NY Cavalry at the age of 34 in 1861 in Crown
Point NY. This unit saw a lot of action, including Bull Run, Antietam,
Gettysburg and Appomattox Court House. His two younger brothers got
involved after they moved to Wisconsin with my Great Great Grandfather
Joseph after Catherine Chilcot Bigalow died (her gravestone stands in the
Stevenson Cemetery in Westport NY).
Daniel W.-16164.9Ct joined the 49th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment in 1864
which saw virtually no action (guard duty at some obscure fort).

However, Hiram O. -16164.9E joined the 10th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment in
1861 and was involved in Sherman's Campaign, seeing action at the Battle of
Peachtree Creek (site of which was less than a 1/2 mile from where I now
write this). He was mustered out in Marietta a few months later (a few
miles North of Atlanta) and therefore did not participate in Sherman's
infamous March to the Sea. (I just knew I wasn't the first of my direct
family to see Atlanta!)

Comments: I'm interested in hearing from any Bigelow, especially those who may have knowledge of the former Bigelow farm on Bigelow Hill in the Town of Moriah (Westport mailing address) Essex County, New York. I am the son of Theodore O. and Joyce Bigelow. My grandfather was Theodore Roosevelt Bigelow. He was one of 15 Bigelow children raised on the farm on Bigelow Hill. My great Aunt and Uncles, Ruth and John were 2 of the 15 siblings and ran the farm until their deaths in the 1990's. They both were in their 90's when they passed. The old farmstead is still standing albeit not very well. I'm interested in knowing when the farm first started. I was told as a child that it once served as a stagecoach stop about half way between Port Henry and Westport.My great grandfather's name was Franklin. I'd appreciate any help.......thanks

Comments: I'm the son of Galen Edward Bigelow of Westport New York. My brother Tom had added an addendum to this site which I can up-date concerning myself. I'm a graduate of RIT in Rochester New York. Tom was right that I started as an inspector for GA.DOT, but over the past 21 years working for the Department I'm presently Asst. Area Engineer of the Gwinnett/Barrow County Area 5, District One of the State of Georgia. I also hold the position of Project Manager of the largest Contracted value of any project in the State of Georgia ($147,437,538.03). Now for the up-date:
I married Susan Kay Garcia Feb 14, 1982. Three Children - Edward Galen who is living in Victoria Texas. Donald Jeffrey who resides in Brunswick, GA. and his twin Patricia Joy who is living with her mom in Marrietta, GA. Divorced in April 1988. Married Sheila Sullivan of Savannah, Ga. in Aug 1992. Divorced in March 2003. Sheila past on in Sept. 2005. Third time a charm - Married Janna Jo Stone on April 7, 2003 on top of the Sidney Lanier Bridge(Brunswick, GA.) on the day of it's grand opening at Sun-Up. We are presently living in Monroe, GA. I'm still working for the State of GA. will retire in 2011
