Howard Hopson 9 BIGELOW

Virginia Sullivan asked her sister, Jan, for help identifying, but it sure looks like there are some members of the Shiek family in the photo. Do you know? Sure looks like my Grandpa Shiek behind Grandpa Bigelow and Marion. Maybe me with my Uncle Russ? and his daughter, Sally on the other end.??The lady between Grandma Bigelow and Agnes could be my Step-grandmother Gertie Shiek.?

Matilda Schaad on left with family of Christian and Cecelia (Ruff) Schaad

Bigelow, Howard H. (page 763), is a respected citizen and prominent farmer of Elgin Township, was born in this township, May 4, 1880, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Bigelow. He was educated in the schools of the village and township, and until 21 years of age remained on the home farm, where he gained skill in agriculture. On coming of age he rented 200 acres of the farm from his father, which he operated on his own account until 1911. In that year he bought his first 80 acres, and has since purchased some land each year, now owning 400 acres in sections 28 and 29, Elgin Township. His improvements have kept pace with his land purchases and his place is well developed, the land productive and the buildings in good condition. As a general farmer he is adding to his own wealth and is a useful factor in the agricultural improvement of his township. In religion he is a Catholic, and belongs fraternally to the Knights of Columbus and the Modern Woodmen of America. Mr. Bigelow was united in marriage, October 7, 1908, with Matilda Schad, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Schaad. Six children are the issue of this marriage, namely:

George (Yun Ming) Tung was born on November 29, 1924 in a small village near Mukden, Mancheria, China. He passed away on December 28, 2016 after 92 years full of life.  He was predeceased by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Marion V. Tung (Bigelow).  He is survived by sons Lein, Andrew and Stephen, and his daughter, Alicia, their spouses and seven grandchildren.  George held degrees in law and economics and served the State of Colorado for more than 25 years, including 18 years as the Chief of Economic Research, in the governor’s office. He was honored with a Tribute from the Colorado State Senate for his accomplishments.
George enjoyed the outdoors and took his children on many adventures in the US and abroad. His devotion to his family and support gave his children many opportunities for further education and to embrace his love of the outdoors and travel. He was a prolific reader and skilled researcher. Even late in life, George’s sense of social justice remained strong as he often commented on the human condition both locally and abroad.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be sent to the National Park Service and Denver Botanic Gardens.
A memorial service will be held at Three Trees Chapel, 13416 West Arbor Place, Littleton, Colorado at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 1, 2017.
As many of you know by now, Dad passed away. But I wanted to share a more personal note than the public one. Dad began to decline pretty quickly overnight on the 26th and throughout the next day. He had family with him 24hrs there after. Keeping him company. His eldest nephew flew in from Dallas to keep Dad company too. Dad passed away on Dec 28 at about 9:15 am. Lein and I were with him. He looked peaceful for quite a while before he passed. We all remarked how glad we were that he was in Minnesota last summer to spend a bit of time with you all. We are working on a memorial service similar to Mom's. Thank you everyone for your comforting words and kindness.

Our mom, Dorothy (Bigelow) Ramstack has been gone now for 34 years. It's heard to imagine!!!
Dad always said that one of the happiest times in their lives was when they first met at Fort Sheridan, north of Chicago. They were both stationed there. Mom was assigned to doing the paper work involved in formally discharging WWII soldiers in 1945. I'm not certain what dad did, but he once showed me all of their favorite taverns in the area. I think mom really for the fist time enjoyed her independence. When us kids came along, I think it became real stressful for her. We were part the "Archie Bunker" generation when the mother stayed home to raise the kids. I think she needed more adult social outlet's, at that time, but, a guess because of the social values in those days, that wasn't allowed.
The second photograph was taken on the Orr Farm, I think in the early 1960's. I don't know how long the Orr's kept this horse, but I don't think it was very long. Mom always wanted to be a "cowgirl." O.K. I feel better. Have a great day!!!

These pictures are from Bigelow Cousins Facebook. On the left is grandpa Harold Hopson with wife and grandkids. Margaret, standing behind Grandpa. Virginia and Margaret ( daus of Lucille Mae) were there in 1954 to take care of kids John was born then. The picture on the right appears to be Leo's kids with their uncle Frank who had no kids of his own at that time. Various sources give the names of James Mason (standing), Mary Agnes with scarf, and David Leo
